Air defense, investments in defense industry, ammunition: Support for Ukraine at Nordic Baltic 8 meeting
The defense ministers of Norway, Iceland, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania presented plans for further support to Ukraine at the Nordic Baltic 8 meeting
This was reported by Ukraine's Minister of Defense, Rustem Umerov.
"Another important goal of my visit to Denmark was to participate in the NB8 meeting, where the defense ministers of Norway, Iceland, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania gathered. Each of the countries presented its plan for further support to Ukraine," he said.
Umerov shared that Sweden is preparing a new large military aid package, including strengthening Ukraine's air defense. Importantly, deliveries are expected to take place this year, he noted.
Norway is allocating 7.8 billion euros in 2025 – one of the largest aid budgets for Ukraine. The funds may be directed to enhancing maritime capabilities and air defense, Umerov added. Norway is also supporting military training within the "Nordic-Baltic Brigade" and investing in Ukraine's defense industry.
According to the Ukrainian defense minister, Lithuania is working on strengthening Ukraine's air defense, investing in the defense industry, and contributing to the "Czech initiative." He also emphasized that artillery shells remain a priority.
Latvia is focused on equipping Ukrainian units, supplying shells, and cooperating in the defense industry sector. Iceland is involved in investments in Ukraine's defense industry within the "Danish model" and is helping to prepare the "Nordic-Baltic Brigade."
As Umerov writes, Finland is working on supplying artillery shells and preparing a new aid package. Estonia is preparing new shell deliveries and is ready to join the training of the "Nordic-Baltic Brigade."
Meanwhile, Denmark is considering additional investments in Ukraine's defense industry.
"The Nordic and Baltic countries remain some of our most dedicated allies. They are not only increasing military aid but also actively supporting the development of our defense industry. The meeting was productive and once again confirmed: Ukraine is not alone. I thank our partners for their determination and support. Together, we are strengthening Europe's security," said Ukraine's Minister of Defense.
- Several European Union member states have announced commitments to allocate up to €15 billion in additional aid to Ukraine.
