U.S. may begin providing military aid to Ukraine through NATO contributions — political scientist
The United States will help Ukraine through contributions to NATO, and military aid to Ukraine will be included there
Political scientist Oleksii Buriachenko said this on Espreso TV.
"Many previously criticized that under Trump, the U.S. was not submitting the next military aid package to Congress. The same macro-financial aid, which was record-breaking last year. These funds will now be available; I analyzed the statements included in the NATO communiqué—there it is stated that member countries will integrate military aid for Ukraine into this 3.5%," he said.
The political scientist emphasized that the U.S. is currently spending 3.5% of its GNP on NATO membership contributions.
"Now, a very interesting point, considering what Vice President Vance said today, that the 'Trump Doctrine' has already been formed, that this is his vision for U.S. foreign policy—this could mean that there will be no next macro-financial aid for Ukraine in 2025. But the U.S. will help Ukraine through contributions to NATO, and military aid to Ukraine will be included there. Trump said that it is important for them that Ukraine receives actual weapons, not American taxpayers' money, which could go to some bureaucratic expenses. In essence, he gave a pass to previous criticism of the Democrats, when the lion's share of aid to Ukraine was lost before reaching direct military assistance," Buriachenko summarized.
On Wednesday, June 25, NATO country leaders supported a significant increase in defense spending and reaffirmed their commitment to defend each other against potential attacks.
