Ukraine wouldn’t have lost 4,000 km² of territory if U.S. hadn’t delayed aid — Zelenskyy
President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion, Ukraine has lost about 4,000 square kilometers of territory. If the U.S. had delivered aid on time, the figure would have been smaller
He said this during a speech at the Munich Security Conference on February 15.
"Yes, we lost about 4,000 square kilometers of territory. If the help had come very quickly, we would have been in a better position," Zelenskyy said.
He added that the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces, Oleksandr Syrskyi, was right when he said that one of the reasons for some of the losses of our territories was the delay in aid from the United States.
"We talked about these delays. We also talked to the Congress. Before the election, in September, I thanked both parties for the decision. If Trump and Biden had not supported this decision, it would not have been made. This is the help we really needed at the time. It is constantly provided to us. But I understand that we have not received everything," the President of Ukraine said.
- As of December 2024, the Ukrainian army has lost about half of the previously controlled territories in the Kursk region.
