Ukraine to receive €35 billion from EU by late 2024 despite Hungary's opposition - Espreso correspondent
Espreso correspondent Tetiana Vysotska says that Ursula von der Leyen stressed that Ukraine will receive €35 billion by late 2024
She shared the information on Espreso TV.
"Despite all Hungary's carpetbagging, Ursula von der Leyen has unofficially reiterated that Ukraine will receive €35 billion by the end of the year, which will be provided as loans under the guarantees of Russian frozen assets. This is the plan of the European Commission, which means they have plans on how to twist Orban's arm and force him to allow these funds to be provided to Ukraine," Vysotska said.
According to the Espreso correspondent, Ursula von der Leyen once again made it clear that the EU will make Russia pay.
"The funds are planned to be provided from the EU budget under the guarantee of frozen assets. That is, it will be a loan that Ukraine will have to repay someday, but if it fails to do so, the EU will take these Russian assets into its budget," Vysotska explained.
- Earlier, Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said that Budapest intends to strengthen economic ties with Moscow despite the EU's sanctions against Russia.
- On October 8, Hungary's Finance Minister said that Budapest will block the process of granting a $50 billion loan from the G7 to Ukraine until after the U.S. presidential election.
