Norway to provide Ukraine with nearly €550 million for drone purchases
Norway will provide Ukraine with 6.5 billion Norwegian kroner (about 550 million euros) for the purchase of drones and technologies from Ukrainian and European manufacturers
The press service of the Norwegian government reported the information.
They are convinced that this will strengthen Ukraine’s defense capabilities, especially in protecting critical infrastructure and conducting surveillance and combat operations.
“Drones play a vital part in Ukraine’s fight to defend itself. They are important both to protect critical infrastructure and for use on the front line. The contribution from Norway will significantly enhance Ukraine’s capacity to carry out necessary surveillance and operations using drones,” said Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.
This is Norway’s largest purchase of drones from foreign companies, and it is part of a broader support program of 50 billion kroner, approved by the Storting for 2025. The government also supports the purchase of equipment according to Ukraine’s own priorities—air defense, artillery, drones, and so on.
Norway plans to continue its assistance in the areas of maritime security, autonomous systems, military training, and cooperation with other Nordic and Baltic countries.
The government believes that the experience gained will also strengthen Norway’s own defense capabilities.
Earlier, it became known that the Netherlands signed contracts for the production of 600,000 drones for Ukraine as part of the Drone Line initiative. They will be delivered by the end of the year.
