
New Zealand extends training of Ukrainian troops through 2026
On April 22, Prime Minister Christopher Luxon stated that New Zealand will continue to provide training for Ukrainian military personnel for more than another year

"New Zealand is unwavering in its support for Ukraine against Russia’s illegal and unprovoked invasion. That is why we are extending our deployment of up to 100 New Zealand Defence Force personnel to train Ukrainian soldiers in the UK and throughout Europe, and provide intelligence, liaison and logistics support through to December 2026," Luxon said.
According to him, the assistance will include the provision of intelligence and logistical support.
Under the 2025-2026 mandate, New Zealand Defence Force personnel will continue to provide specialized training to Ukrainian military personnel throughout Europe. This includes assistance to those wounded in combat, training in the disposal of explosive ordnance at sea, and more.
Since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the total amount of New Zealand’s support to Kyiv has reached 152 million U.S. dollars.
Just last year, the New Zealand government announced two packages worth 41.9 million New Zealand dollars as part of its ongoing support for Ukraine.
