Majority of Americans say Trump should continue military aid to Ukraine
More than half of Americans believe Trump administration should continue military assistance to Ukraine
This was revealed in a Harvard CAPS/Harris Poll.
More than half of surveyed U.S. citizens—including both Democrats and Republicans—support the idea that Donald Trump's administration should not end military aid to Ukraine.
“62% of voters believe that the Trump administration should continue to provide weaponry to Ukraine and impose sanctions on Russia (Democrats: 71%; Republicans: 59%; Independents: 56%),” the poll report states.
According to the survey, 64% of voters across party lines believe Ukraine should receive direct security guarantees from the U.S. if it agrees to concessions to end the war with Russia.
In addition, a majority of Americans believe Donald Trump has not been tough enough on Russian ruler Vladimir Putin and the Russian government. This opinion was shared by 59% of respondents.
Donald Trump stated that, as a result of his phone call with Vladimir Putin on May 19, Russia and Ukraine should immediately begin ceasefire negotiations.
On May 20, U.S. President Donald Trump emphasized that the United States would withdraw from talks between Ukraine and Russia if no significant progress is made, and added that he would not introduce new sanctions against Russia.
