Greece may supply Ukraine with 70 M114 howitzers in 2024 - media
Greek government officials have informed EU officials that they are ready to continue supplying Ukraine with equipment and weapons in 2024 through the Czech Republic
This is reported by Ekathimerini.
This year, Greece is ready to provide the following nomenclature for the Ukrainian Armed Forces: 2,000 Zuni rockets, 180 75-mm rockets, 90,000 90-mm anti-tank grenade launchers, 4 million rounds of small arms ammunition, and most importantly, 70 American-made 155-mm M114A1 howitzers.
The above-mentioned howitzers will be supplied from the Greek army's stock, as they have long been considered unnecessary for its operational needs. However, these M114s will be useful to Ukraine in its confrontation with the invading Russian forces. And interestingly, the authors claim that this will be the second batch of M114 howitzers to be transferred from Greece to the Ukrainian Armed Forces through the Czech Republic.
Equally interesting is the fact that this publication states that Athens also supplied Ukraine with unnamed anti-aircraft missile systems, the number and timing of which are not disclosed. And there is also a reminder that Greece transferred BMP-1 infantry fighting vehicles to the Ukrainian Armed Forces under a "ring exchange" with Germany.
Greek Defense Minister Nikos Dendias is set to attend a new Ramstein meeting in Germany next week, where he intends to state his position that arms and ammunition supplies to Ukraine must be maintained to help the country get through this difficult spring.
''As for the other weapons systems the Ukrainians have requested, such as the Soviet-made S-300 anti-aircraft missile battery, Greece has repeatedly stressed the need to replace them with more modern Western systems. And, regardless of whether it sends the S-300 system to Ukraine, it is preparing to replace it, as it is on the verge of becoming obsolete.," emphasizes Ekathimerini.
