Germany set to deliver eighth IRIS-T air defense system to Ukraine
Ukraine's Ambassador Oleksii Makeiev announced the preparation of the delivery of the eighth IRIS-T air defense system from Germany to the Ukrainian military
He said this during a conversation with Ukrainian journalists in Kyiv on Thursday, as quoted by the Interfax-Ukraine agency.
The ambassador emphasized that the IRIS-T air defense systems, which Ukraine needs, continue to be supplied by Germany. "Seven systems have already arrived, the eighth is on its way," the diplomat informed.
He also touched on other systems for protecting Ukrainian airspace that Germany has already provided.
"We have received more than 60 Gepards. That is, most of the Gepards that could be found in the forests of the world have already been caught, and they are now grazing in Ukrainian pastures," the Ukrainian ambassador said.
In addition, he mentioned the Skynex anti-aircraft artillery system from Rheinmetall, which is showing good results in service with the Air Force. According to the ambassador, Ukraine will continue to work on the supply of these systems.
"Moreover, there are already initial ideas between representatives of the defense industries of Ukraine and Germany to jointly build additional air defense systems. That is, to take a gun from Rheinmetall, mount it on a different chassis, and also incorporate missile systems," Makeiev explained.
As is known, since the beginning of the German government led by Friedrich Merz, Germany no longer publishes information about new arms deliveries to Ukraine. Official Kyiv also does not disclose data on the German assistance received.
