German Greens urge immediate approval of €3 billion aid package for Ukraine
Following U.S. President Donald Trump's decision to suspend aid to Ukraine, Franziska Brantner, leader of Germany's Green Party, has called for swift approval of a long-planned €3 billion aid package for Ukraine
Speaking on the Frühstart program on ntv, Brantner emphasized the need for action, urging Finance Minister Olaf Scholz to submit the proposal to the Bundestag for approval. “After the U.S. decision, it is time to move forward,” Brantner said. “Finance Minister Scholz must finally bring the long-awaited €3 billion package before the Bundestag for allocation.”
She added, “There’s no reason why this cannot come from the Ministry of Finance now. The Bundestag has already decided, and there’s a clear majority in favor. It’s time to pass it today.”
Discussions surrounding the €3 billion aid package had been ongoing since January, prior to Germany’s early elections. According to Spiegel, there was internal disagreement within the German government over an additional €3 billion weapons package for Ukraine.
- The U.S. media reported that Donald Trump ordered the suspension of all current military aid to Ukraine until he is convinced that the country's leaders “demonstrate a sincere commitment to peace.”
