Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna has called on European allies to increase assistance to Ukraine to fill the gap amid the halt of U.S. military support

This is stated on the website of Estonia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“Europe must increase military aid to Ukraine to allow Ukraine to continue fighting for a just and lasting peace,” Tsahkna said.

He noted that his government has already decided to increase military aid to Ukraine by 25% this year and to urgently deliver 10,000 artillery shells to Ukraine.

“Our decision proves that it is possible to make new and quick decisions to help Ukraine, and we call on all supporters of Ukraine to increase their aid as soon as possible,” the Estonian minister emphasized.

According to Tsakhkna, one of the ways to get additional funds to help Ukraine is to use Russia's frozen assets. Since most of Russia's frozen state assets are in Europe, Europe should play a crucial role in taking action and directing these assets to help Ukraine.

“Claims that there are no legal ways to use Russia’s frozen assets are unfounded. Last week, I shared a draft paper with our European partners, offering a clear solution for using frozen assets. Before the June deadline for extending the sanctions imposed on Russia, a political decision must be taken on using frozen assets,” the foreign minister said.

He also emphasized that the aggressor, who is the sole culprit of the war, should feel pressure, and the victim of aggression should be strongly supported.

“It is the only way to force Russia to give up its goals and achieve lasting peace in Ukraine,” Tsakhkna added.

  • U.S. President Donald Trump has ordered the suspension of all current military aid to Ukraine until he is convinced that the country's leaders “demonstrate a sincere commitment to peace.”
