AFU repel Russian attacks near Soledar, Bakhmut, Marinka and 10 other settlements - AFU General Staff report

The Ukrainian army repelled attacks in three settlements of the Luhansk region and ten of the Donetsk region.

Ukrainian troops struck a command post and 23 areas of Russia’s concentration and equipment 

On January 9, the aviation of the Defense Forces struck 18 strikes on the areas of concentration of Russia’s personnel, weapons and military equipment, as well as 3 strikes on the positions of its anti-aircraft missile systems.

Also, Ukrainian soldiers shot down 2 Russian reconnaissance UAVs of the Orlan type.

In turn, the units of the missile troops and artillery of the Ukrainian Defense Forces struck the control point, 5 areas of manpower concentration, Russia’s military equipment and 2 positions of the Russian anti-aircraft missile systems.

In Horlivka during the raid the Russian forces mobilized 30 people, 4 of them are disabled

"Russian forces continue to take measures to mobilize the local population in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine," the General Staff noted. 

Thus, in Horlivka, Donetsk region, on January 6, during another raid, up to 30 people were mobilized, 4 of them are with disabilities. 

After 2 days of so-called training at the Vostochny training ground, they were sent to one of the military units of the Russian forces.

During the week of 2023, 120 Russian terrorists were brought to Novotroitske hospital

Russia continues to suffer losses. Thus, about 120 Russian soldiers were brought to the Novotroitske hospital, Kherson region, during the first week of 2023.

Russia launched 8 missile and 31 air strikes on the territory of Ukraine

Russian forces continue to wage full-scale armed aggression against Ukraine. They do not cease to strike, carry out artillery shelling of critical infrastructure and civilian population on the territory of Ukraine, thereby violating the norms of International Humanitarian Law, laws and customs of warfare.

On January 9, Russia launched 8 missile and 31 air strikes. He fired 63 times from multiple missile launchers, including at the civilian infrastructure of Kharkiv, Kherson and Kramatorsk in the Donetsk region and Ochakiv in the Mykolaiv region. There are casualties among civilians.

The threat of Russia’s air and missile strikes on critical infrastructure remains on the whole territory of Ukraine.

Russian soldiers are focused on capturing the Donetsk region, advancing in three directions

Russian forces are conducting offensive actions in the Bakhmut, Avdiivka and Lyman directions, trying to improve the tactical situation in the Kupyansk direction. 

They focus their efforts on capturing the Donetsk region within the administrative border but are unsuccessful.

In the northern Ukrainian border with Russia, Russian forces fired at the positions of our troops and civilian objects near one settlement in the Chernihiv region, six in the Sumy region and four in the Kharkiv region.

In the Kupyansk and Lyman directions, Russian forces fired from tanks, mortars, cannon and missile artillery at the areas of 22 settlements. Among them are five in the Kharkiv region and four in the Luhansk region.

In the Bakhmut direction, Russian forces shelled the areas of more than 25 settlements. In particular, five in the Donetsk region.

In the Avdiivka direction, seven settlements of the Donetsk region were under fire.

In the Vuhledar direction, three settlements in the Donetsk region were shelled.

In the Zaporizhzhia direction, areas of 21 settlements came under fire. Among them are two settlements in the Donetsk region and five in the Zaporizhzhia region.

In the Kherson direction, the civilian infrastructure of four settlements was damaged by Russian artillery shelling.

• On January 9, a military expert and reserve colonel of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Roman Svitan noted that Russia increased the density of troops in the area of Soledar.

• The same day in the evening, Deputy Defense Minister of Ukraine Hanna Malyar reported that after an unsuccessful attempt to capture Soledar, Donetsk region. Russia resumed a powerful assault on the city.
