AFU repel 8 attacks on Marinka, Russia sends armed cadets to defend western border – General Staff

The Ukrainian Armed Forces' General Staff reported this on June 2.

“The military leadership of the Russian Federation has decided to reinforce the state border with cadets of higher military educational institutions. Thus, on May 31, about 200 third-year cadets armed with small arms and grenade launchers were sent to Russia's western border under the pretext of training,” the General Staff writes. 

Frontline situation

On the night of June 1 to June 2, the Russian forces once again launched a massive air strike on the territory of Ukraine, including Kyiv. Terrorists used UAVs and cruise missiles, but all of them were destroyed in the sky.

In total, during the day, Russia launched 62 airstrikes, 15 missile strikes, and about 20 attacks with multiple launch rocket systems at the Ukrainian troops' positions and populated areas.

According to the report, the threat of missile and air strikes across Ukraine remains high. Occupying Russian army continues its attempts to fully occupy the Luhansk and Donetsk regions. During the day, it launched 15 attacks, but all of them were repelled by the Ukrainian Defense Forces.

Near the state Ukrainian border with Russia and Belarus, the situation hasn't changed significantly, and no enemy offensive groups have been detected. 

At the same time, the Russian Federation continued shelling the entire border line: 2 settlements in the Chernihiv region, 4 more in the Sumy region, as well as 12 towns and villages in the Kharkiv region were attacked. 

Russian attacks in other Ukrainian regions

• In the Kupiansk direction, 11 settlements in the Kharkiv and Luhansk regions came under artillery shelling. 

• In the Lyman directions, 7 settlements in the Luhansk and Donetsk regions came under Russian fire. 

• In the Bakhmut direction, 10 localities in the Donetsk region were attacked by the invading Russian forces. 

• In the Avdiivka direction, 3 villages in the Donetsk region were shelled. 

• In the Marinka direction, the Russian troops attacked in the area, however, Ukrainian defenders repelled all 8 enemy assaults. Estimated enemy losses amounted to up to 10 soldiers killed and about 20 wounded. Two units of Russian vehicles were destroyed. 4 settlements of the Donetsk region came under fire. 

• In the Shakhtarsk direction, 3 settlements of the Donetsk region were shelled. 

• In the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson direction, 12 towns and villages were subjected to numerous attacks by the invading Russian forces. 

Ukrainian Armed Forces' strikes on Russian forces

Ukrainian aviation launched 8 strikes on the invading Russian forces' military positions, as well as 2 strikes on enemy anti-aircraft missile systems.

The Ukrainian Air Defense Forces destroyed 15 cruise missiles and 17 Shahed-136 UAVs.

Missile troops and artillery struck a control center, 2 munitions depots, 2 electronic warfare stations, a radar station, as well as a multiple launch rocket system.

• Over the past day, the Russian army attacked at least 10 Ukrainian regions. The attacks resulted in deaths and injuries.
