AFU may receive more Challenger 2 tanks from Britain - military expert Kyrychevskyi
There are reasons to believe and expect that the UK will send more than just 14 Challenger 2 tanks to Ukraine
Defense Express’ military expert Ivan Kyrychevskyi shared his opinion with Espreso TV.
"Perhaps, there will be more Challenger 2 tanks. Britain promised not just those 14 tanks. Also, 8 more self-propelled guns and another set of armored personnel carriers. In this package, tanks are tied to self-propelled guns, and armored personnel carriers to the guns. Britain provided us a set of equipment, enough for a mechanized brigade," he said.
According to Kyrychevskyi, the UK started the transfer of tanks to rearm the maximum number of AFU’s mechanized or tank units.
"Accordingly, there is reason to believe and expect that the story with Challenger will not end with the transfer of only 14 vehicles. According to the development plans of the British Army, they have several dozen vehicles they no longer need. They want 150 Challenger 2 tanks to be upgraded to the Challenger 3 standard, and they planned to write off about 70 other vehicles. Obviously, these vehicles will gradually move into the hands of the Ukrainian Armed Forces," the expert concluded.
- In the new package of military assistance, the UK, in addition to 14 Challenger 2 tanks, will provide Ukraine with thirty AS-90 self-propelled artillery systems.
