Hungary won’t block Ukraine’s EU membership, says MP
Ukrainian MP and Secretary of the Committee on Ukraine's EU Integration, Valentyn Nalivaychenko said that Ukraine is working with all 27 EU member countries, including Hungary, regarding its EU membership
He made this statement during a broadcast on Espreso TV.
"No, Hungary will not block Ukraine's membership in the EU. We are working with all 27 countries – EU member states, including Hungary, as well as with the European Commission, which is the government of the EU.
First, the parliament has already passed amendments to the legislation regarding the languages of national minorities, including in the field of vocational education. This is an important step toward European standards. Secondly, this is a step towards, including, the Hungarian community in Ukraine, especially the youth who will be receiving an education," said Nalivaychenko.
According to the Secretary of the Committee on Ukraine's EU Integration, Ukraine is quickly changing its legislation to resolve any issues that may arise, for example, with neighboring Hungary.
"In addition, we have also ratified the European cross-border cooperation program and funding between communities in the parliament. Now, for example, communities in Transcarpathia have a direct legislative opportunity to create joint projects with Hungarian communities and receive funding directly from the EU.
We advocate for every community, especially along the EU border – Romania, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia – to be able to access billions of euros from the EU to build local infrastructure. Importantly, these funds will come directly, without Kyiv's mediation, and will specifically support local projects.
This is real integration. This is an example of how we can and should cooperate with Hungary, not only to avoid obstacles but also so that both Hungary and Hungarian communities, and most importantly, the Hungarian people, support Ukraine's aspiration to be part of the European family," Nalivaychenko added.
