The former commander of the Azov regiment, Major Maksym Zhorin, noted that due to the successful operation in the south of Bakhmut, an important section of the front was recaptured

He said this on the Espreso TV channel.

"An offensive operation was planned and launched on the flanks of Bakhmut, namely in the south. The operation was successful. We managed to drive the enemy out of their positions. These positions were occupied by the Wagner forces and the 72nd Brigade of the Russian Federation. Prigozhin said a lot that the 72nd Brigade of the Russian Federation had allegedly fled, and that the Wagner fighters were good. No, the 72nd, unlike the Wagner mercenaries, tried to hold their positions, and the Wagner soldiers fled from their positions immediately after the assaults began. Most of them were killed while trying to escape. The 72nd was knocked out and destroyed. Their positions are under Ukrainian control," noted Zhorin.

Maksym Zhorin also added that thanks to this local offensive, an important section of the frontline has been recaptured. It will be possible to develop successful actions from this area.

  • The founder of the Wagner PMC wrote a letter to the leadership of the Russian Defense Ministry, in which he announced his intention to withdraw his mercenaries from Bakhmut on May 10.

  • Earlier, Prigozhin had repeatedly spoken about the lack of ammunition, but Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu assured that the army had enough.

  • At the time, Ukraine’s Armed Forces explained what caused Prigozhin's statements about the occupiers' "shell hunger" – he meant that they were unable to take control of Bakhmut in Donetsk region.

  • On May 9, the head of the illegal Wagner PMC in another video reported problems with ammunition for his mercenaries and complained about the active actions of the Defense Forces in Donetsk region.

  • The spokesman for the Eastern Military Grouping, Serhiy Cherevatyi, told Espreso that he believes that Prigozhin is looking for excuses for not fulfilling his obligations.

  • Mykola ‘Abdullah’ Volokhov, commander of the Terra reconnaissance unit of the Azov tactical group, told Espreso TV that Ukrainian troops had liberated more than two kilometers of Bakhmut, Donetsk region
