The Russian occupying forces are changing their air attack tactics and constantly upgrading their equipment, making it more difficult for Ukraine's air defenses

This was reported by Yuriy Ihnat, spokesperson for the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, according to ArmyInform.

According to him, Shahed-type attack drones have already gone through several modifications since they were first used.

"The same goes for ballistic missiles. After the Patriot systems were deployed, we started showing good results in shooting down Kinzhals and Iskanders. Now it's getting harder, because the enemy is upgrading its ballistic missiles," Ihnat said.

He added that Ukraine is sharing this information with Western partners so they can take it into account and improve their own systems.

"The Patriot system works well against ballistic missiles. I’d like to see NASAMS and IRIS-T also able to counter ballistic threats. And since the beginning of 2024, the Russians has been increasing the share of ballistic missiles in their attacks," Ihnat emphasized.

He noted that the last massive air strike like the one on the night of April 6 happened about a month ago.

"The previous large-scale strike was on March 7 — drones and missiles were launched in big numbers across Ukraine. Today, air defense performed well. Unfortunately, only one of the six ballistic missiles was intercepted. The rest hit targets in the Kyiv region," Ihnat said.

According to him, 12 Kalibr and Kh-101 missiles were shot down or jammed by electronic warfare.

"They didn’t hit their intended targets and didn’t cause the kind of damage they were meant to," Ihnat added.

He also pointed out that in addition to missile and drone strikes, Russian propaganda is pushing information attacks.

"What they’re hitting cities with — even cluster munitions — is just terrorism. They always claim they’re hitting restaurants, hotels, or some facility to 'eliminate Western instructors.' In reality, we see who died and what was actually hit," Ihnat said.

  • As a reminder, on the evening of Friday, April 5, Russia launched attack drones across Ukraine. A fire broke out in Mykolaiv, injuring four people. There was also destruction in Sumy.
  • On the morning of April 6, an air raid alert was declared across the country. Russia launched cruise and ballistic missiles. One person was killed and several others were injured in the strike on Kyiv.
