Zelenskyy shows European politicians school basement in Chernihiv region where occupying Russian forces held locals for month
German Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck and Council of Europe Secretary General Marija Pejčinović-Burić arrived in Yahidne, Chernihiv region, where they witnessed the consequences of Russian occupation
This was announced by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
He showed the European politicians the basement of the school where the Russian occupiers held Ukrainians in inhumane conditions for 27 days.
"Together with the Vice Chancellor, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action Robert Habeck and Secretary General of the Council of Europe Marija Pejčinović Burić, we saw the consequences of the occupation of the village of Yahidne by Russian troops.
We visited the Yahidne secondary school, in the basement of which the Russian occupiers forcibly kept 367 Ukrainian civilians in unsanitary conditions. The residents of Yahidne lived through terrible ordeals. They were kept in the basement for 27 days. They survived standing and sitting," Zelenskyy said.
He noted that 11 people died in that basement.
