Zelenskyy removes Venediktova and Bakanov from their posts
On the evening of July 17, 2022, Iryna Venediktova was removed from the position of Prosecutor General of Ukraine, and Ivan Bakanov was removed from the duties of the Head of the Security Service of Ukraine
The corresponding decrees were published on the website of the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Presidential Decree №500/2022 "On the removal of the Prosecutor General" emphasizes that such a decision was dictated by the martial law regime.
"In accordance with the second part of Article 11 of the Law of Ukraine "On the Legal Regime of Martial Law", I decree: to remove Venediktova Iryna Valentynivna from the post of Prosecutor General", the text of the document states.
In Presidential Decree №499/2022 "On the removal of Ivan Bakanov from the duties of the Head of the Security Service of Ukraine", Zelenskyy refers to the Disciplinary Statute of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
"In accordance with Article 47 of the Disciplinary Statute of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, approved by the Law of Ukraine of March 24, 1999 №551-XIV, I order the removal of Ivan Gennadiyovych Bakanov from the duties of the Head of the Security Service of Ukraine," the presidential decree states.

Article 11 of the Law "On the Legal Regime of Martial Law" regulates the activities of the president during martial law.
"During the period of martial law, the President of Ukraine may make a decision to remove an official from his post, the appointment and dismissal of which is within his authority, as well as assign the performance of duties to another person for the corresponding period", - it is emphasized in the second part of this article.
