Zelenskyy proposes to extend martial law and general mobilization for 90 days
Volodymyr Zelenskyy proposed to the Ukrainian Parliament (Verkhovna Rada) to extend mobilization and martial law in Ukraine for another three months
Today, on May 1, two significant draft laws numbered 9259 and 9260 were officially registered in the parliament. These draft laws propose the extension of martial law and general mobilization in Ukraine. Specifically, they seek to approve the Decree of the President of Ukraine regarding the extension of martial law and general mobilization from May 20, 2023, for a duration of 90 days.
This marks the sixth time the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine will be voting on martial law and general mobilization since the full-scale invasion by the Russian Federation began on February 24, 2022. Initially declared from February 24 to May 25, 2022, these measures have been extended as follows:
-
From May 25 to August 23, 2022.
-
From August 23 to November 21, 2022.
-
From November 21 to February 19, 2023.
-
From February 19 to May 20, 2023.
Yaroslav Zheleznyak, a People's Deputy, recently expressed his belief that the Rada will likely continue martial law and general mobilization into May.
