Zelenskyy may visit Brussels for EU leaders summit this week
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy may attend the European Union leaders summit which will be held on February 9 in Brussels
It is reported by the Financial Times.
According to the Financial Times, the EU is preparing to receive Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the summit in Brussels on February 9.
The President of Ukraine is expected to speak at a special session of the European Parliament. This will be his second visit outside Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion.
Spokesman of the European Council President Charles Michel, who presides over the 27 EU leaders meetings, confirmed that the President of Ukraine received an invitation to the summit. Zelenskyy’s spokesman refused to comment.
Zelenskyy’s only foreign visit after Russia's full-scale invasion on February 24, 2022 was a trip to Washington in December, where he held talks with US President Joe Biden and spoke at a joint session of the houses of Congress.
The FT notes that Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s visit to the EU summit is still under question due to security concerns.
"Frankly speaking, it is very risky for me to travel. It's true," Zelenskyy said on February 3 answering a question about a possible visit to Brussels.
