Zelenskyy grants Hero of Ukraine title to soldier executed for saying "Glory to Ukraine!"
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine to soldier Oleksandr Matsievskyi, who was executed by Russian troops for saying "Glory to Ukraine!"

The president announced this in his evening address.
"Today I conferred the title of Hero of Ukraine upon Oleksandr Matsievskyi, a soldier. A man whom all Ukrainians will know. A man who will be remembered forever. For his bravery, for his confidence in Ukraine and for his "Glory to Ukraine!"," the president said.

On March 6, a video of a Ukrainian prisoner of war being executed by Russian soldiers for saying "Glory to Ukraine!" was posted online. On March 12, the Security Service of Ukraine released the name of the man who was shot: he was a sniper with the 163rd Battalion of the 119th Separate Tank Brigade of the Chernihiv region, Oleksandr Matsievskyi. He was executed on December 30, 2022.
