According to a report by Bild, a disagreement arose between Zelenskyy and Zaluzhnyi over the military strategy in the city of Bakhmut in the Donetsk region, where the most intense fighting is currently taking place.
Several sources within Ukraine's political leadership told Bild that Zaluzhnyi had allegedly recommended a few weeks ago that they consider withdrawing from Bakhmut for tactical reasons.
However, the decision to stay in the city was ultimately made and was seen as the right one, as told by another anonymous Ukrainian government official. He explained that the Russian army had suffered significant losses in Bakhmut, both in terms of personnel and equipment, with many tanks and armored vehicles destroyed.
According to Bild, it is claimed that Zaluzhnyi's view is allegedly shared by most of the soldiers defending Bakhmut.
Another unnamed military adviser warned that Bakhmut could become a trap for the Ukrainian military.
"At first, Bakhmut was a trap for the Russians, but now it has become a trap for us. The only military reason to continue holding Bakhmut is to kill them in a ratio of 1:7. The troops should have been withdrawn three weeks ago when the Russians took Krasna Hora," he said.
On March 6, military expert Serhiy Zgurets noted that a significant number of Russian military personnel was liquidated near Bakhmut.
