Zelensky introduces bill to Verkhovna Rada to ratify Istanbul Convention
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has introduced a bill to the Verkhovna Rada (parliament) on ratifying the Council of Europe's Convention on the Prevention of Violence against Women and Domestic Violence (Istanbul Convention).

The Istanbul Convention or the Council of Europe Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence is an international agreement, first signed in 2011.
This is the first document that legally obliges to create a legal basis for combating violence against women. Countries that have acceded to the convention must criminalize psychological violence, harassment, physical and sexual violence, forced marriage, forced abortion and sterilization.
