Yuriy Shukhevych, Hero of Ukraine, political prisoner, son of Ukrainian Insurgent Army commander, dies at 89

Yuriy Shukhevych died in Germany, where he was undergoing treatment. He was 89 years old.

Information about Shukhevych's death was also confirmed by head of the information and public relations department of Lviv Regional Council, Volodymyr Telyuk, in Espreso comment.

Yuriy Shukhevych spent 28 years in Soviet Union prisons and camps. In 1990 - 1994 became organizer and head of UNA-UNSO. In August 2006, President of Ukraine, Viktor Yushchenko, awarded Yuriy Shukhevych the title of Hero of Ukraine.
