Once, after all his imprisonments and exiles, which began in the life of Yurii Shukhevych at the age of 11, when Ukraine had already become free and independent, he met the major of the Lviv Department of the KGB, who handled his case, and told him:
“You did everything so that Ukraine did not exist. I know that Ukraine is not what it should be, for which we fought. But there is independent Ukraine! And all your efforts against Ukraine were in vain. Like it or not, we won!”
And on the eve of February 24, during his speech in the "Great Lviv Speaks" program, he announced prophetic, as everyone hopes, words.
“A war with Ukraine can lead to very serious consequences for the Russian Federation. Actually, it can be the beginning of the collapse of the Russian Federation itself. And I believe that it will be so.”
He was convinced that as soon as the collapse of Russia begins, the North Caucasus, not only Chechnya, but also Dagestan, and North Ossetia and other peoples would leave it. Then the peoples on the Volga, and then also Siberia.
He also expressed his opinion about Putin, who stubbornly threatens the whole world and tries to continue his strategy of intimidation, characterizing him as an adventurer capable of anything, who primarily copies Stalin in his actions.
“He imagines himself as the second Stalin. He tries to imitate Stalin. He was stunned by his impunity.”
At the same time, Yurii Shukhevych was sure of the importance for Ukrainians of the words of Patriarch Joseph Slipyi - "wish for greatness".
