"We’re counting on cooperation in deepstrike field": Umerov meets Canadian Defense Chief
On January 19, Ukraine’s Defense Minister Rustem Umerov met with General Jennie Carignan, Chief of the Canadian Defense Staff, to discuss increasing weapons supplies for Ukraine’s Armed Forces
This was reported by the Ministry of Defense’s press service.
“We briefed our Canadian partners on Ukraine’s security priorities: stabilizing the front, targeting critical enemy positions, and developing our defense industry. With investments from allies, Ukraine leads in producing UAVs, ground robotics, and electronic warfare systems. I’m grateful for Canada’s strong support, especially funding for Ukrainian drones based on the ‘Danish model,’” Umerov said.
General Carignan reaffirmed Canada’s commitment to increasing assistance to Ukraine.
Umerov outlined Ukraine’s needs, including air defense systems, heavy armored vehicles, and specific ammunition types.
He also emphasized the importance of Canadian cooperation in "deepstrike" weapons — both in supplying Western models and supporting Ukrainian production of long-range systems.
- On January 9, Canada announced a new $330 million military aid package for Ukraine.
