War is unavoidable: Russia's Medvedev reacts to US refusal to return Alaska

Putin spoke about searching for and returning real estate abroad, which was perceived in Russia as an attempt to return Alaska. The US ridiculed this talk, to which former President Dmitry Medvedev reacted in his usual tone

The reason for this was Putin's order to search abroad for real estate that once belonged to the USSR and even the Russian Empire and to properly register the rights to it.

Although the document did not specifically mention Alaska, the decree caused ecstasy among pro-Kremlin bloggers. Washington warned Moscow against encroachment on American territory.

"I think I can speak for all of us in the US government and say that, of course, he (Putin - ed.) is not going to get it back," said Deputy Secretary of State Vedant Patel, commenting on Russian propaganda's hints about the allegedly "illegal" sale of Alaska in 1867.

Former Russian President and current Deputy Chairman of the National Security and Defense Council Dmitry Medvedev immediately began to comment on this situation in his usual extravagant manner.

“According to a State Department representative, Russia is not getting back Alaska, which was sold to the U.S. in the 19th century. This is it, then. And we’ve been waiting for it to be returned any day. Now war is unavoidable” he wrote on X social media.

• On the Day of Unity of Ukraine, January 22, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a decree "On the Historically Inhabited Territories of the Russian Federation by Ukrainians". According to the document, the Kuban, Starodubshchyna, as well as Northern and Eastern Slobozhanshchyna within the modern Belgorod, Bryansk, Voronezh, Kursk, Rostov regions and Krasnodar Territory are recognized as lands historically inhabited by Ukrainians.
