
Russia pushes U.S. to lift aviation sanctions, but EU blocks move
The BIS made the statement.
"Kaspersky will generally no longer be able to, among other activities, sell its software within the United States or provide updates to software already in use," the statement said.
The reason cited was a threat to national security, attributed to the Russian Government's "offensive cyber capabilities and capacity to influence or direct Kaspersky’s operations."
The agency recommends that users currently using Kaspersky software transition to alternative software providers. However, it permits Kaspersky to maintain "certain operations" in the United States until September 29, 2024.
On June 12, the United States imposed new sanctions against Russia amid the Kremlin's transition to a war economy.
