Ukraine’s EU membership path shortened by free trade zone status, says official
Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olha Stefanishyna stated that Ukraine's path to EU membership will be shorter due to its status in the free trade zone
On July 22, speaking during a public discussion in Kyiv about Ukraine's EU accession process, Stefanishyna emphasized this point, Espreso reports.
Stefanishyna highlighted that European Council President Charles Michel mentioned that eight countries would join the EU by 2030. She asserted that Ukraine's path would be "clearly shorter" because the country has been part of the free trade zone for ten years.
"A lot depends on how quickly we can integrate our legal system and the market rules. I am confident that a few years is the maximum time we need to complete our work," she added.
She also noted that 11 high-level advisers, including ministers and European commissioners, are currently in Ukraine to assist during the negotiation process for EU membership.
- On July 2, MEP Danuta Hübner stated that the process of analyzing Ukrainian legislation for compatibility with European laws could begin in July. She urged Ukraine to prepare thoroughly for this screening to avoid delays.
