British missiles to boost Ukraine's arsenal: what are they?
Britain unveils a significant aid package worth over $600 million, including a variety of missiles to reinforce Ukraine's Armed Forces
Defense Express writes about it.
In its largest arms aid package yet, the British government pledges £500 million (around $617 million) to Ukraine, part of a £3 billion military aid commitment for the year.
The aid comprises ammunition, air defense systems, drones, and engineering support gear, with surplus weaponry from the UK Ministry of Defense also earmarked for Ukraine.
Included in the aid are 400 pieces of equipment, notably 160 Husky armored vehicles, 162 MRAPs, 78 all-terrain vehicles, and 60 raid boats. Additionally, 4 million rounds of small arms ammunition and 1,600 attack and anti-aircraft missiles, along with more Storm Shadow cruise missiles, are part of the package.
The anti-aircraft component likely includes ASRAAM missiles and those for the Stormer HVM air defense system, utilizing Starstreak or Martlet, alongside British MANPADS.
Regarding strike missiles, the aid possibly encompasses two missile types. Firstly, the Martlet, a lightweight, versatile missile effective against light armored vehicles due to its precision laser guidance system.
Secondly, the Brimstone missile, weighing 50 kg and recognized for its accuracy as an anti-tank weapon. It can be launched from ground-based launchers, offering a range of 12-20 km, depending on the variant. The Brimstone's active radar head distinguishes targets from the ground, with a backup semi-active laser guidance system. Notably, Brimstone missiles can share target data in-flight, enhancing their effectiveness during salvo launches.
