UK stands firm on not sending Eurofighter Typhoons to Ukraine – Defense Express
Despite France supplying Mirage 2000-5 jets to Ukraine and uncertainties over U.S. military aid, the UK has reaffirmed its decision not to transfer decommissioned Eurofighter Typhoon Tranche 1 fighters
Defense Express writes about this.
The UK Ministry of Defence has repeatedly assessed the relative advantages and disadvantages, said Defense Minister Luke Pollard. After detailed discussions with the Ukrainian government, the UK has decided to focus on supporting the provision of European F-16s.
The UK currently operates 30 Tranche 1 Typhoons, with 26 set for decommissioning in 2025 and the remaining four by 2027. While discussions about the jets were ongoing, including with other Eurofighter-operating nations like Germany, Italy, and Spain, London remains committed to backing Ukraine’s F-16 program.
Pollard also revealed that 24 Ukrainian pilots have completed intensive Fast Jet Lead-in training in the UK, part of a broader effort that has trained 200 Ukrainian personnel.
Meanwhile, the UK’s own Eurofighter program faces uncertainty. No new orders have been placed, raising concerns about the future of Britain’s fighter jet production and its ability to develop the next-generation Tempest aircraft.
