Trump frustrated by Zelenskyy’s public embrace with European leaders after White House spat
U.S. President Donald Trump was enraged when he saw the leaders of European countries embracing the Ukrainian president after a public spat in the White House
Politico reported the information, citing its own sources.
After the tense visit to Washington, which ended in a confrontation, Zelenskyy traveled to Europe, where he met with King Charles III.
Earlier, the Daily Mail reported that Trump felt "less special" after seeing a photo of Zelenskyy with the monarch. Just days earlier, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer had offered Trump an invitation to meet the king.
But it wasn’t just the meeting with Charles III that upset Trump — it was also “the sight of Europe hugging him close,” Politico noted.
A British official told reporters the Trump team “didn’t like the look of it … the way the whole love-in landed.” He suggested the U.S. reaction pushed London to apply more pressure on Ukraine in the following days to return to talks with Washington.
