According to Fico, the reason for this step is the need to discuss Russian gas supplies to Slovakia.
The Slovak Prime Minister instructed the Foreign Minister to raise the issue at the EU summit on Wednesday, June 18.
"We want to ask that sanctions not be discussed now, but that this topic comes first," Fico said.
The Prime Minister voiced concern over the possible halt of Russian gas supplies to Slovakia starting January 1. He stressed the importance of securing enough gas for the country and avoiding major price hikes for households.
"Slovakia has no reason to suffer because of Ukraine," he added.
