Scholz announces increase in German military aid to Ukraine to €7 billion
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has announced that Germany plans to increase its military aid to Ukraine to €7 billion
This was reported by Interfax-Ukraine.
Speaking to reporters, Scholz noted that this week, the German Bundestag passed "a very comprehensive amendment to our constitution, allowing us to finance what is necessary for our country's defense, cooperation in Europe on defense issues, and the military aid we need to mobilize for Ukraine."
"And tomorrow, I hope, the Federal Council in Germany will also approve this decision, giving us the freedom to do everything necessary as a major power in the heart of Europe. This will also include, by the way, an increase in our military aid to Ukraine after the decisions are finalized. In total, it will be seven billion — four billion already planned, with an additional three billion to be added," the Chancellor said.
He also emphasized that "Germany is and will remain Ukraine's biggest supporter in Europe."
- On March 19, Olaf Scholz's government agreed to provide Ukraine with an additional €3 billion in military aid this year.
