Russia spreads fake news before Polish elections about alleged Polish provocations against Belarus
Ahead of the second round of the Polish presidential elections, Russian propaganda is pushing disinformation about supposed Polish plans to provoke Belarus
This was reported by the Center for Countering Disinformation.
Propagandists are claiming that Polish security forces are allegedly preparing to disrupt the upcoming Russian-Belarusian military drills "West-2025," scheduled for September. According to Russian sources, Poland is planning provocations that could lead to casualties among the exercise participants.
As so-called proof, Russia points to the increased Polish military presence near the Belarusian border.
"In reality, the boost in Poland’s border security is linked to repeated threats of illegal border crossings from Belarus. These attempts have intensified during the Polish election period, clearly showing their real aim — to sway public sentiment in Poland before the vote," the Center explained.
- The first round of Poland’s presidential elections took place on May 18. According to an exit poll commissioned by public broadcaster TVP, the gap between the two leading candidates heading into the second round is less than 2%.
