Putin and Xi discuss Middle East tensions, G7 summit in phone call
Russian leader Vladimir Putin held a phone conversation with Chinese President Xi Jinping. The Kremlin also announced Putin’s visit to Beijing this fall

This was reported by the propaganda state agency TASS, citing Putin’s aide on foreign affairs, Yuri Ushakov.
According to Ushakov, the main focus of the conversation was the escalating situation in the Middle East. Putin, in particular, confirmed Russia’s readiness to “undertake mediation efforts regarding Iran.”
The two sides also discussed the outcomes of the G7 summit held in Canada.
The conversation lasted about an hour in total.
The next meeting between Putin and Xi Jinping is reportedly scheduled to take place in China during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in late August or early September. Full-scale talks between the two leaders are set for September 2 in Beijing.
