Poland uses ATACMS missile supply deal to pressure Germany over Ukraine support

Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski expects German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to reconsider Germany's decision on supplying Taurus missiles to Ukraine following the U.S. provision of additional short-range ATACMS missiles

He conveyed this in an interview with German media outlet WELT.

"I hope recent events will push the chancellor," Sikorski remarked, expressing his desire "for Germany to step up its efforts."

Sikorski labeled the supply of American ATACMS missiles with a range of 300 km as "a response to the escalating Russian aggression." He anticipates Scholz acknowledging this fact.

"The Russians have already devastated 70% of Ukraine's electric power capacity. This constitutes a war crime," emphasized the Polish Foreign Minister.

He underscored the global recognition that Putin responds only to pressure and the strongest arguments of force.

Scholz has consistently dismissed the idea of supplying Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine, reiterating this stance on Saturday, April 27, stating: "There are weapons that can only be provided if you have complete control over their use. Taurus is a cruise missile capable of traveling 500 km when deployed correctly."

• Recall that on April 24, it was revealed that the USA had clandestinely delivered ATACMS missiles to Ukraine, and the Ukrainian Armed Forces had utilized them at least twice.
• Explosions were heard near the Dzhankoi military airfield in temporarily occupied Crimea on the night of April 17, purportedly resulting from ATACMS missile strikes.
• The United States hopes that the decision by allies to provide long-range missiles, including ATACMS, to Ukraine will prompt Germany to follow suit with the Taurus missiles.
