Sandu claims Russia may resume efforts to destabilize Moldova this spring

Moldovan President Maia Sandu said that in the spring of 2024, Russia will again seek to destabilize the situation in the country by using Transnistria.

AGERPRES reports the Moldovan president noted that all this time, Russia has been trying to destabilize order and power in Chisinau, each time trying to use the regime in Transnistria. However, she stressed that Moldova is taking all measures to counter these attempts.

"We are aware of these risks and we are taking all measures to prevent these destabilisations. We are talking to them and telling citizens about these risks, as we did last year when Russia intended to overthrow the government (during protests organized by pro-Russian forces - ed.) Together with citizens and state institutions, we are trying to protect ourselves from these risks, but we still have work to do, we still have vulnerabilities," Sandu said.

She also stressed that Moldova counts on the support of Romania and the international community in this matter.

"We know that Russia will resume its actions this spring to try to destabilize the situation," the Moldovan president said.

Presidential elections are due to take place in Moldova in autumn 2024.
