Moldova says two Russian drones violated its airspace
Late on Sunday, February 16, Moldova's armed forces reported another violation of the country’s airspace near the Ukrainian border by two Russian drones
This was confirmed by government spokesman Daniel Vodă, according to Reuters.
He stated that the drones entered Moldovan airspace around 11:00 p.m. local time, coinciding with reports of a Russian drone attack on Ukraine’s neighboring Odesa region.
Vodă noted that the drones exited Moldovan airspace near the city of Taraclia in the south, close to the Taraclia-Bolgrad checkpoint on the Moldovan-Ukrainian border.
Later, Moldova’s Foreign Ministry condemned the airspace violation.
“We strongly condemn the illegal violation of Moldovan airspace by drones resulting from Russian aggression against Ukraine. This is a serious security risk and a disregard for our sovereignty,” the Foreign Ministry stated.
The ministry added that Moldova will continue to invest in airspace protection to safeguard its citizens from potential threats.
- Following the attack on Odesa’s port infrastructure on the night of February 13, fragments of Russian drones were also discovered in Romania.
