The Guardian reported the information.

Polling stations opened at 07:00 a.m. and will operate until 21:00 p.m., with first results expected in the evening. Around 20 parties and independent candidates are competing for 101 parliamentary seats.

Most polls show the pro-European Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS), in power since 2021, leading the vote. Analysts, however, stress that the outcome remains unpredictable.

Former Moldovan President Igor Dodon, leader of the Socialist Party, expressed confidence in an opposition victory. He stated that if successful, he plans to continue dialogue with the EU while restoring close ties with Russia.

Analysts say voter turnout will be decisive, especially among the large and influential diaspora, which typically votes for PAS, and in the separatist Transnistria region, which leans pro-Russian.

  • According to Bloomberg, Russia plans to interfere in Moldova’s elections to weaken the pro-European government and influence the country’s euro-integration path.
  • On September 22, Moldovan authorities detained 74 people suspected of receiving training in Serbia to organize mass unrest during the September 28 parliamentary elections.
