Lithuanian president's plane grounded by unknown drone over Vilnius
The Spartan aircraft carrying Lithuania’s President Gitanas Nausėda was unable to land at Vilnius Airport for some time due to reports that an unidentified drone might be in the airspace
The Lithuanian President’s spokesperson, Tomas Beržinskas, shared the information, as reported by LRT.
According to Flightradar24, the plane carrying Nausėda departed from Helsinki at 7:10 p.m., circled over Vilnius, and landed at 9:17 p.m.
“When approaching Vilnius Airport, information arrived about a detected drone and that landing was temporarily unsafe. The pilots took all safety measures and landed after some time,” the spokesperson said.
Oro navigacija clarified that the drone report over the Lepkalnis area came from the Aviation Security Service of Lietuvos oro uostas.
“Then safety procedures were activated: flights were temporarily suspended, and after information confirmed there was no threat, operations resumed. Together with other services, we are investigating which drone disrupted air traffic,” the company said.
