According to Major Gintautas Ciunis, a representative of the Lithuanian Army's Strategic Communications Department, such a statement from Minsk about an allegedly thwarted drone attack from his country's territory is disinformation, and it "only makes me smile."
"It's nonsense, I can't find another word for it," Ciunis added.
At the same time, the words of Minsk are also denied by the representative of the communication service of the army commander, Živilė Didžgalvienė.
"Hostile information activities are characterized by disinformation and false accusations. The Lithuanian army has not taken and is not taking any hostile actions against other countries," she said.
The head of the Lithuanian National Crisis Response Center, Vilmantas Vitkauskas, also commented on the situation, noting that information from Belarusian services about alleged groups in Lithuania and Poland seeking to harm Minsk is not new.
"Such narratives have been heard for a long time, and they became especially active during NATO defense exercises in the Baltic states, and Lukashenko made similar statements in early March... Such statements by the Belarusian KGB can be assessed as an ongoing hostile provocation and information attack against Lithuania, which has nothing to do with reality. It can be assumed that they are also intended for the domestic audience of the country, as the ‘people's assembly is currently taking place," Vitkauskas explained.
