Chief of the State Police Armands Ruks said this, Delfi reports.
He urged Russian citizens living in Latvia who want to go to the polling station to be prepared for possible checks on the street.
"Admission to the embassy will be appropriately controlled by setting up checkpoints in cooperation with the State Border Guard Service, checking residence permits or visas," Ruks added.
The head of the state police noted that similar checks are carried out by Russian special services when Latvian citizens come to polling stations in Russia.
If during the checks the police finds violations of the rules of residence in Latvia, the country will initiate deportation procedures. It is noted that in order to comply with the proper procedure for observing such procedures, representatives of the Citizenship and Migration Department will be involved in the inspections.
Ruks also emphasized that during the Russian presidential election, the Latvian state police will work in a reinforced mode.
