
G7 leaders ready to consider all pressure tools against Russia, including sanctions – Zelenskyy
After the G7 summit in Canada, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the G7 leaders voiced support for U.S. President Donald Trump’s efforts to secure a just and lasting peace in Ukraine
He wrote this on social media.
Zelenskyy said the G7 leaders acknowledged that Ukraine had confirmed its readiness for an unconditional ceasefire, and agreed that Russia must do the same.
“G7 Leaders are resolute in exploring all options to maximize pressure on Russia, including financial sanctions,” Zelenskyy added.
At the summit in Canada, G7 leaders met with the President of Ukraine and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte to discuss support for a strong and sovereign Ukraine — including budget decisions on defense, recovery, and reconstruction.
G7 summit: background
The latest G7 summit took place in Kananaskis, Canada. A meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and U.S. President Donald Trump was planned on the sidelines.
However, Trump left the summit early due to the situation in the Middle East.
On Tuesday, June 17, Zelenskyy met with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney during the summit.
He thanked Canada for the 2 billion Canadian dollars (about 1.5 billion U.S. dollars) provided to Ukraine as part of a new aid package, and for expanding sanctions against Russia.
According to media reports, Zelenskyy left the G7 summit without meeting President Trump.
