The news agency reviewed the draft document with France's proposal. It states: "destabilizing activities carried out by Russian-affiliated actors have increased across Europe, as the Russian regime takes measures to undermine democracy, stability and the rule of law through various hybrid instruments.”
The French idea was supported by Poland, the Netherlands, Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia. Such sanctions would allow for tighter restrictions against legal entities and individuals involved in Russian-funded destabilizing activities around the world.
The article also notes that the EU has prioritized the fight against Russian fakes on the eve of its parliamentary elections, which aim to divide allies on the topics of assistance to Ukraine and deteriorating relations with the states of the so-called Global South.
Bloomberg adds that at the same time, the G7 countries are preparing joint actions to combat foreign information manipulation and interference.
