Expert Danylov explains how results of local elections in Turkey will affect Erdogan's policy

Serhiy Danylov, Deputy Director of the Center for Middle East Studies, believes that after the defeat of his party in the local elections, it will be difficult for Erdogan to change the Constitution and run again in the presidential elections in 2028

He shared this opinion on the Espreso TV channel.

"Of course, the results of the local elections in Turkey will not be the end of Erdogan's rule. However, it may be the beginning of the end of his rule. Because Erdogan will still be the president of the country until 2028, and he also has a majority in parliament," Danilov explained.

The expert noted that public sentiment in Turkey has changed dramatically

"On the other hand, after the results of the local elections in Turkey, some of Erdogan's decisions will be difficult to implement through the parliament. For example, his idea to amend the Constitution to allow him to run for office in 2028 is unlikely to be passed. Now the public mood in Turkey is somewhat different. If Erdogan were to win this election, he would go for another term by changing the Constitution. This means that the mayor of Istanbul, who will run for president of Turkey, will be able to consolidate resources. Today, everyone is already considering him as Erdogan's successor," he added.
