Russia seeks to boost war efforts in Ukraine during BRICS summit– ISW
At least 36 world leaders have gathered in Kazan for the BRICS summit, where Russia is likely seeking ways to bolster its military presence in Ukraine
This is according to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
Russia is expected to use the BRICS summit as a stage to highlight its expanding ties with non-Western nations and potentially craft agreements and trade mechanisms that would help sustain its war effort in Ukraine while bypassing the effects of Western sanctions, the ISW stated.
Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Chinese leader Xi Jinping on the sidelines, with both emphasizing the importance of close ties between their nations. Xi particularly noted that BRICS represents a key platform for global strategic cooperation.
Putin also held talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, discussing bilateral relations, a multipolar world order, and the use of national currencies in trade.
The BRICS summit, chaired by Russia, kicked off in Kazan on October 22, with delegations from 36 countries, including 22 heads of state, in attendance.
- Throughout the summit, Putin held several meetings with other world leaders and officials.
