Democrats consider disrupting Trump’s speech to Congress – Axios
Democratic lawmakers are weighing their options for protesting President Donald Trump’s March 4 speech to Congress — including a full-on disruption
Several House Democrats confirmed this to Axios.
There’s some internal debate over the best form of protest. According to Axios, some members have suggested walking out if Trump uses certain phrases they deem unacceptable.
Others plan to bring props to make a point. These include empty egg cartons — to highlight inflation’s impact on egg prices — pocket Constitutions to call out alleged violations, red cards, and more.
"There are definitely a lot of constituents that really want Democrats to disrupt and there are ... constituents who feel like that just plays into his hands," one Democratic lawmaker told Axios.
Some lawmakers will also wear blue-and-yellow ties to signal support for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Another option under discussion: a “silent protest,” where attendees refuse to react or applaud during Trump’s speech.
For context, Trump is scheduled to address Congress on Tuesday, March 4, at 9:10 p.m. (4:10 a.m. Kyiv time).
- On March 3, Trump wrote, "Tomorrow night will be big," and promising to "tell it like it is."
