Agreement to set up special tribunal for Russia’s aggression to be signed on June 25
The agreement to create a special tribunal for the crime of aggression by the Russian Federation will be signed on Wednesday, June 25
This was announced by Yevheniya Kravchuk, a member of Ukraine’s permanent delegation to PACE, according to European Pravda.
Kravchuk said that on Tuesday, June 24, an extraordinary meeting of the Council of Europe’s Committee of Ministers will take place. At the meeting, Secretary General Alain Berset is expected to receive the mandate to sign the agreement with Ukraine on setting up the special tribunal.
"Tomorrow marks a truly historic moment. What once felt like just a hope for justice is about to become real. Ukraine and the Council of Europe will sign a deal that moves Russia one step closer to being held responsible," Kravchuk wrote on Facebook.
It’s also worth noting that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s first visit to the Council of Europe is planned for June 25.
The Council of Europe’s Committee of Ministers began the legal process to create the Special Tribunal on May 14. Political support for the move had already been given at a summit in Lviv on May 9.
